Bummer.

The Dismemberment Plan, my favorite band, has decided to break up. When I read the news on the web site, I was shocked. While some will point out that this is merely a self-fulling prophecy, I certainly wasn't expecting it. (Then again, until Monday, I thought Kevin Bacon did all the dancing scenes in "Footloose.”) I'm bummed that I won't get to hear what The Plan comes up with next, what sick new songs will stick in my head, amusing my wee little brain. I've been to a number of shows the past couple years and it's hard to imagine why they would want to disband. Going to a Plan show is like a party in a giant pair of pants and everyone's invited. The energy and rapport the band generates with each audience is amazing. Some of the recent shows I've seen, most notably their show w/ Ms. Spice, have been snizzlicious. Okay, that's not even close to a word, but it could describe the vibe one gets at a Plan show. I will definitely miss it. However, as I learned from my last job, it isn't right, then let it go.

It's been almost 10 years since the Plan were playing in our basement on Prince Edwards St. in Fredericksburg. That's a long time. I guess now is as good a time as any to call it quits. Of course, they'd have been HUGE if they had changed their name to Mayonnaise like I suggested. So if anyone out there is lookin for a band name, Mayonnaise is all yours (I'm looking at you, Wolf Cookie).
